Timeline of Tenacity
What I wouldn’t give for the ability to go back in time and advocate for myself. To explain to my teachers and coaches how the symptoms affected me in pedagogical terms.

Another little thing to worry about
What exactly do I do with this information?

What do you do?
As it did for most, the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic brought adversity that sometimes made answering what I do for a living more challenging. However, when I contracted COVID for the first and only time in May of 2022, I couldn’t have foreseen that my singing career would be put on hold indefinitely and my identity: who I am, my life’s purpose, and what drives me, would be turned completely upside down.

Futuristic Dream
My costume is reminiscent of one I’ve worn in waking life, with one exception: the shoes are truly, deeply comfortable.

Voices
I am playing a character in our school musical who is a man. “We can change the character to a woman, if you want,” says the director. But, overachiever that I am, I relish a challenge.
I steal ACE bandages from my parents’ medicine cabinet and wrap them around my chest, like I’ve seen in movies.
A little voice whispers in the back of my mind - This doesn’t look half bad, you know.

Exactly The Body I Need For Singing
Singing is such an athletic activity, and I’ve never thought about this before, but maybe as well as saying “you need the physical frame to support your voice,” he was saying, “you need to change the way you think, you need to take up more space.”

Things I Shouldn’t Tell You
The first thing I shouldn’t tell you is that I was recently pregnant.
Grey Area
It took many years to trust that this high pleasure came from my own body, not from being near anyone else’s.

Our Sampson
He is not the only professor to tell me
That my chin juts forward
But he is the only one to fix it by pulling my hair
